Stephen Uwazota

Stephen joined BMO in August 2024 as Director, Sustainable Banking and Clean Energy, NACB from Scotiabank where he led the development of the Commercial Bank Sustainable Finance franchise. He helped new and existing clients navigate the evolving ESG/Sustainability landscape with a focus on mobilizing capital and ideas that support the embedding of ESG/Sustainability at the core of an organization’s strategy and capital structure. Prior to this role, he led a team of credit managers as Director, Global Risk Management, managing a Commercial Banking portfolio in Ontario & GTA markets, building on his experience as an Associate Director and lead credit underwriter for Scotiabank’s most complex credits in the Prairies National Accounts team. 

  

Stephen’s experience includes Investment and Corporate Banking roles in Energy, Healthcare and Diversified Industries where he executed transactions covering M&A, DCM, Senior Debt Syndication, ECM, and Credit Restructuring at leading financial institutions in Canada, the U.S and internationally and was part of the management team that successfully turned around the operating performance of a PE-backed manufacturing business. 

 

He holds an MSC in Investments from the University of Birmingham, England, and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He also holds the CFA Charter, loves playing squash and enjoys supporting community through volunteering with various impact organizations.
